The Newport Flower Show and Martha’s Vineyard

Step back in time when there were gilded walls, nightly affairs, island escapes, and gardens with stairs. Welcome to the Gilded Age!

“Pearls of Newport” is the theme for the 30th anniversary of the Newport Flower Show. This year’s mansions tour includes stops at four of Newport’s estate properties, including Rosecliff, the site of the Newport Flower Show. Other notable tours include Marble House (where we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the Chinese Tea House), the whimsical Green Animals Topiary, and heiress Doris Duke’s Rough Point. The tour begins with a day trip via Seastreak to Martha’s Vineyard, where we will tour the Polly Hill Arboretum (founded by America’s first woman arborist) with an afternoon of gingerbread beach cottages, shopping, sightseeing, and ending with dinner on your own in downtown Oak Bluffs. On Friday, we head to Boston for a tour of the magnificent home of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a bohemian millionaire, then stroll through Boston Common’s Public Gardens, with shopping and dinner as you choose at Faneuil Hall. Sunday, the final day of the tour, features a fabulous visit to the treasured American Garden Estate, Blithewold – including an elegant afternoon tea and lunch – and dinner at the acclaimed landmark, the La Forge Casino, home of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This garden tour will enthuse and delight amateur and professional gardeners and arborists alike.
